
Class Descriptions
Preschool
Ages 3-4 (1 hour)
This class is perfect for the preschooler that loves to move and use their imagination. They will be introduced to basic ballet moves along with some basic tumbling skills. This class will teach preschoolers how to behave in a classroom setting and have fun at the same time. They will learn a dance that will be performed in the Winter and Spring Recital.
Ballet/Tap
Ages 5-6 (1hour)
This class is the combination of both ballet and tap. They will learn basic ballet combinations at the barre along with some exersices across the floor. They will also be introduced to tap rhythms and will perform a tap dance at the Winter and Spring Recital. This class is the perfect combination of learning new things and having fun!
Ballet, Jazz and Tap
Ages 7-8 (1 hour 15 min)
Ballet, Jazz and Tap is when the students really get to show off their personalities. First they will have 25 minutes of ballet class where they will learn basic ballet combinations at the barre along with combinations across the floor. Next they will learn 25 minutes of basic jazz moves. The last 25 minutes is tap where they will learn new rhythms and combinations across the floor. They will learn a jazz dance and a tap dance that will be preformed in the Winter and Spring recital that will really show off their new skills. This is the perfect class to take your young dancer to the next level!
Beginning Tumbling
Ages 5-8 (1 hour)
In this class students will learn exercises to increase flexibility and strength and basic tumbling moves that will progress as the year goes on.
Progressive levels
Level 1 - Ages 8-9
Level 2 - Ages 10-11
Level 3 - Ages 12-13
Level 4 - Ages 14-15
Elite - Teacher approval only
*Required for competition students. Flexibility training or acrobatics may be substituted for tumbling.
*Technique - This class is one hour for levels 1-4 and an hour an a half for Elite. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. As students progress through each level the curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. This class will not participate in either recital.
*Contemporary - This class is one hour and is offered to levels 1-Elite. It is a fusion of two similar styles: lyrical and modern, that will focus on the best of both curriculums. Students will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises combined with basic techniques. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. This class will take place in both the Winter and Spring recital.
Hip Hop - Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. This class will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. This class will take place in both the Winter and Spring recital.
Tap - This class is half an hour and is offered to levels 1-Elite. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on coordination and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds and having fun. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. This class will take place in both the Winter and Spring recital.
*Jazz - This class is an hour and is offered to levels 1-Elite. Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. This class takes place in both the Winter and Spring recital.
*Pointe - Dances in level 3 and up are welcome to register for pointe class, however teacher permission must be given to purchase pointe shoes. All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. This class will not take place in either recital.
*Tumbling - This class is an hour and is offered to levels 1-Elite. Tumbling classes begin with a warm-up to stretch and enhance flexibility. Each class works on various tumbling skills depending on the level of the class. Skills range from forward rolls and cartwheels in the beginning to handsprings, tucks and aerials in the advanced class. This class will take place in both the Winter and Spring recital.
Flexibility Training - Learn the basics or work on advancing your skills in this flexibiliry training class! This class has an acro influence guided towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique. Some skills taught may be: handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks. This class will not take place in either recital.
Jumps & Turns - This class is one hour and is a combination of levels 2-Elite. Jumps & Turns is designed to help each dancer identify and work on specific techniques and skills needed to improve their understanding and performance of jumps and turns. This class will not take place in either recital.
